Renewable Energy

Amber Organisation and its principals have extensive experience with wind and solar farms and more generally with related renewable energy generation projects. Amber’s role in advising on energy generation projects spans the full spectrum of the project from inception through to post-Court resolved implementation. We prepare Traffic Impact Assessments and Transportation Studies to support wind and solar farms, including; assessment of access routes, intersection and road design for overmass and oversize vehicles, and assessment of the impact of site traffic on the operation of the road network. We understand the challenges associated with these projects and the specific vehicles that are required to transport plant to the site.

A range of example projects in the wind farm sector that Amber’s principals have successfully contributed towards include:

  • Pottinger Renewables – Pottinger Energy Park
  • ENGIE – The Plains Renewable Energy Hub
  • Infigen – Bodangora Wind Farm
  • RES Australia – Kerrs Creek Wind Farm
  • Goldwin Capital and Lacour Energy – Baldon Wind Farm
  • Vestas – Winterbourne Wind Farm
  • Windlab – Burrawong Wind Farm
  • Windlab – Berrigan Wind Farm
  • Athena – Bendemeer Renewable Energy Hub
  • Epuron – Doughboy Wind Farm

We understand the importance of consultation with the relevant road controlling authorities in order to achieve a successful outcome for the project and to shorten the overall application processing time. Further examples of where we have been able to achieve this is through our involvement in solar farm projects. The locations of solar farm projects we have been involved with are provided below:

Lismore Battery Energy Storage System

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming more common as Australia transitions towards a more sustainable future in the energy sector. Amber recently prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment and Construction Traffic Management Plan for the Lismore BESS which is situated in McKees Hill, NSW. We prepared functional layout plans and swept path diagrams along the access route and identified traffic mitigation measures to allow the safe movement of vehicles between the local and State road network. We always design with safety in mind and worked closely with Transport for NSW to achieve a practical solution to the challenging access route for this project.

Middlebrook Solar Farm

Amber has recently completed a Traffic Impact Assessment for the 500MW Middlebrook Solar Farm, which is one of the largest solar farms in the country. The project involved extensive consultation with the relevant road authorities in order to gain prior approval for the proposed access arrangements of the site. Amber prepared concept designs for intersection upgrades and conducted a review of the traffic impacts of the proposal on the surrounding road network. This continues are extensive involvement in the renewable energy sector.

Doughboy Wind Farm

The Doughboy Wind Farm proposes approximately 58 wind turbines northeast of Armidale. Amber has been engaged to prepare a Traffic Impact Assessment for the project and have been working with our client, the road authorities, and landowners to establish innovative and practical ways of providing access to the road network in order to reduce the impact of construction traffic. Safety is one of our key considerations when working on renewable projects and we are always looking for ways we can improve our service to our clients which ultimately results in a more cost effect outcome for the project.

Stubbo Solar Farm

Amber prepared a comprehensive Construction Traffic Management Plan (CTMP) for the Stubbo Solar Farm project, a 400MW, located approximately 10km north of Gulgong in NSW.

The preparation of the plan involved on-going engagement with local and state authorities, as well as coordination with the broader project team to ensure that the CTMP addressed all the relevant development conditions so that the project development and construction could continue.

Winterbourne Wind Farm

The Winterbourne Wind Farm is one of Australia’s largest wind farm projects in NSW. Amber was engaged as the traffic engineering consultants for the project to assess the access route for large plant and prepare a Traffic Impact Assessment. Key tasks included; engaging with the road authorities, traffic analysis, intersection and pavement design, and a road safety assessment. Wind farm projects provide challenging engineering problems due to the significant increase in traffic during construction and the delivery of the 80+ metre long turbine blades from the chosen delivery port. We are proud to be involved in another renewable energy project.

5MW Victorian Solar Farms

Amber has recently completed Traffic Impact Assessments for six 5MW solar farms for BNRG located within Victoria. We understand the cost of any road upgrades on smaller renewable projects can be financially challenging. In order to achieve a practical outcome for the access arrangements for smaller renewable projects we work closely with the local road authorities to ensure road upgrades are minimised and suitable traffic management measures are provided within Traffic Management Plans.

With the developing renewable energy sector in Australia we have also worked on a number of battery energy storage systems. These often form part of renewable projects but can also be standalone projects to help facilitate nearby energy development.

With the development of the renewable energy space we have prepared Traffic Impact Assessments for emerging hydrogen, waste, and recycling energy facilities and believe in playing our part towards a cleaner future for everyone. We are experienced consultants in the renewable energy sector and get enjoyment and satisfaction out of being able to work on clean energy projects to help power Australia.
