Traffic Assessments

A Traffic Impact Assessment is often required to support development applications. We have reviewed the traffic and transport implications of a wide variety of projects and specialise in the preparation of these documents. The process typically involves:

• Undertaking a site inspection;
• Commissioning traffic and parking surveys of the area;
• Liaising with the relevant road authorities;
• Conducting a review of the car parking and access arrangements against relevant standards;
• Preparing swept path assessments using the latest computer software;
• Providing advice regarding the provision and design of parking;
• Calculating the traffic generation of the site;
• Carrying out traffic modelling using SIDRA to assess the impacts of the traffic generated by the site;
• Reviewing the service vehicle and waste collection arrangements; and
• Providing advice regarding pedestrian and cyclist facilities.

O’Dell Street Subdivision

One of our subdivision projects is the 105-lot subdivision in Vineyard. Amber prepared several Traffic Impact assessments for the various stages of the project and provided traffic engineering and transportation planning advice to support a variation to the Indicative Layout Plan. We also conducted a review of the traffic and parking aspects of the proposal and provide design advice for the Austroads turn treatments. This forms one of the many subdivision projects we have been involved with in the growth precincts.

Wanderer Music Festival

Wanderer is a new multi-day music festival which first operated in September 2022. The festival is held on farm land approximately 6.5 kilometres north of Merimbula and has a capacity of 14,000 patrons including 10,000 camping patrons. Amber prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment for the project which assessed the potential traffic impacts on the road network. We also provided a review of the proposed operation of the site to ensure patrons were able to access the site in a timely manner and to identify ways to encourage the use of the alternative transport options.

Gunnedah Service Centre

Our team regularly works on regional projects which has included the preparation of a Traffic Assessment to support a Planning Proposal for a service centre near Gunnedah. The site was proposed to accommodate a convenience store and several fast food outlets, and also accommodated a caravan park. The assessment included a traffic modelling exercise using SIDRA for nearby intersections to determine the impact of the additional vehicle movements generated by the various uses. Given the site connected to the State road network it was important for us to liaise with Transport for NSW to determine suitable access arrangements for the site based on the Austroads Guide and our relevant expertise.

Hallam South Warehouse

We prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment for a large warehouse in Hallam South. The access for the project was assessed against the turn treatments of the Austroads Guide which were subsequently unable to be provided due to the constraints of the existing road network. Through our liaising with Department of Transport we were able to prepare a functional layout plan that still provides a safe road environment and worked with our partners to provide a Road Safety Audit.

Middlebrook Solar Farm

Amber has recently completed a Traffic Impact Assessment for the 500MW Middlebrook Solar Farm, which is one of the largest solar farms in the country. The project involved extensive consultation with the relevant road authorities in order to gain prior approval for the proposed access arrangements of the site. Amber prepared concept designs for intersection upgrades and conducted a review of the traffic impacts of the proposal on the surrounding road network. This continues are extensive involvement in the renewable energy sector.

Huntlee Self-Storage Unit

Our team prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment for the large self-storage unit in Huntlee. We utilised our existing survey data for similar developments and worked with our client to determine a suitable parking provision for the site. We prepared swept path diagrams and reviewed the access arrangements for the development to ensure vehicles are able to safely enter and exit the site and access the loading areas.

Donald Mineral Sands

Amber assisted in the development of a comprehensive Traffic Management Plan for the Donald Mineral Sands project, an open pit mining operation in rural Victoria with a project life in the order of 50 years.

The TMP involved consultation and engagement with a broad range of external stakeholders and documentation of actions to manage and mitigate heavy vehicle impacts of the mine over the coming decades.

Fullwood Playing Fields

As part of the renewal of Claymore in western Sydney, a masterplan was prepared for the Fullwood Playing Fields involving improvements to the playing fields and associated facilities, as well as new parking areas and access arrangements.

Amber prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment to support the masterplan. The work involved a technical review of the proposed parking and access arrangements as well as an assessment of the parking provision based on the empirical data.

Viewbank Childcare Centre

Amber has completed a Traffic Impact Assessment report for the childcare centre in Viewbank which is expected to accommodate 128 children. The project proposes to accommodate all car parking within a basement level. We provided design advice and a swept path assessment to ensure the car park is suitably design in accordance with the Planning Scheme. Childcare centres are often accessed via large vehicles associated with parents and need to be provided with additional space to ensure they are useable and provide a safe environment.

Lismore Battery Energy Storage System

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming more common as Australia transitions towards a more sustainable future in the energy sector. Amber recently prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment and Construction Traffic Management Plan for the Lismore BESS which is situated in McKees Hill, NSW. We prepared functional layout plans and swept path diagrams along the access route and identified traffic mitigation measures to allow the safe movement of vehicles between the local and State road network. We always design with safety in mind and worked closely with Transport for NSW to achieve a practical solution to the challenging access route for this project.
