Traffic Assessments

A Traffic Impact Assessment is often required to support development applications. We have reviewed the traffic and transport implications of a wide variety of projects and specialise in the preparation of these documents. The process typically involves:

• Undertaking a site inspection;
• Commissioning traffic and parking surveys of the area;
• Liaising with the relevant road authorities;
• Conducting a review of the car parking and access arrangements against relevant standards;
• Preparing swept path assessments using the latest computer software;
• Providing advice regarding the provision and design of parking;
• Calculating the traffic generation of the site;
• Carrying out traffic modelling using SIDRA to assess the impacts of the traffic generated by the site;
• Reviewing the service vehicle and waste collection arrangements; and
• Providing advice regarding pedestrian and cyclist facilities.

Dubbo Firming Power Station

The Dubbo Firming Power Station is a dual fuel 64MW power plant and up to 20MW hydrogen electrolysis plant. Amber prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment report respond to SEARs and support the projects development the TIA focused on ensuring safe access to the site by identifying and avoiding existing road safety issues.

Williamstown North Warehouses

Amber has completed a number of warehouse developments within a new industrial subdivision located in Williamstown North. Through our collection of data for similar developments we understand that the warehouse parking rates outlined within the Planning Scheme are overly onerous for smaller warehouse tenancies. We have extensive experience throughout Victoria justifying a reduction in the Planning Scheme parking requirements. We also understand the heavy vehicle requirements for these projects and can assist in designing the loading areas to reduce the truck manoeuvre area, increasing your building footprint.

Drouin Childcare Centre

Amber Organisation staff prepare a Traffic Impact Assessment for the 118 place childcare centre located in regional Victoria. Key considerations included the provision of car parking against the requirements of the Planning Scheme and the design of the car park to ensure it operates in a safe and efficient manner. Our Director also provided expert witness services to VCAT to support the development.

Fullwood Playing Fields

As part of the renewal of Claymore in western Sydney, a masterplan was prepared for the Fullwood Playing Fields involving improvements to the playing fields and associated facilities, as well as new parking areas and access arrangements.

Amber prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment to support the masterplan. The work involved a technical review of the proposed parking and access arrangements as well as an assessment of the parking provision based on the empirical data.

Industrial Subdivision

The West Dapto area within Wollongong is going through a period of significant growth. We have prepared a number of Traffic Impact Assessments in the area including an industrial project which proposes to provide 12 hectares of large format warehouse space. The site is ideally located near Princes Highway and our team were involved in conducting a traffic modelling exercise using SIDRA to determine the required upgrades to the road network. As part of this project we also provided a review of road network to ensure it caters for all road users and complies with the requirements of the Development Control Plan.

Wagga Wagga Place of Worship

We have prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment for a 100 patron place of worship in Wagga Wagga. The primary challenge with these projects is providing sufficient car parking to accommodate the typical parking demand for the proposed use. We worked closely with our client to determine what a suitable level of car parking would be based on survey information collected from similar sites they operate. We also provided a review of key religious holidays that generate more patrons and any potential off-site parking impacts. Our assessment included a design review of the car parking area which was checked against the Development Control Plan and Australian Standards, and a swept path assessment was prepared.

Lismore Battery Energy Storage System

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) are becoming more common as Australia transitions towards a more sustainable future in the energy sector. Amber recently prepared a Traffic Impact Assessment and Construction Traffic Management Plan for the Lismore BESS which is situated in McKees Hill, NSW. We prepared functional layout plans and swept path diagrams along the access route and identified traffic mitigation measures to allow the safe movement of vehicles between the local and State road network. We always design with safety in mind and worked closely with Transport for NSW to achieve a practical solution to the challenging access route for this project.

Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport

Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project and it involves the construction and operation of a metro railway line around 23 kilometres in length between St Marys in the north and the Aerotropolis Core precinct in the south. The team at Amber provided specialist traffic engineering advice to the project team to help advise on the design of the road network surrounding the stations. Specialist inputs were required in relation to bus, private vehicle, cycling, and pedestrian movements to ensure the stations and surrounding public environment operate in a safe and efficient manner.

Middlebrook Solar Farm

Amber has recently completed a Traffic Impact Assessment for the 500MW Middlebrook Solar Farm, which is one of the largest solar farms in the country. The project involved extensive consultation with the relevant road authorities in order to gain prior approval for the proposed access arrangements of the site. Amber prepared concept designs for intersection upgrades and conducted a review of the traffic impacts of the proposal on the surrounding road network. This continues are extensive involvement in the renewable energy sector.

Tamworth Mixed Use Development

The project proposed a significant redevelopment of several key sites within the Tamworth CBD to provide two residential towers that will accommodate lower-level commercial and retail tenancies. The car park and access arrangements for the project were made complicated by the unusual shape of the site generated by the amalgamation of smaller lots. We worked closely with the project team to provide an efficient and functional layout that met the requirements of Council and provided a swept path assessment. A Traffic Impact Assessment was prepared for the project which assessed the expected parking demand of the site which varied throughout the day due to the different uses, in order to maximise the allocation of car parking. We also undertook a review of the potential traffic impacts of the project.
