The Role of Traffic Engineering in Waste Management Planning

Efficient waste management relies on more than just collection and disposal — it hinges on sound transportation planning. Whether it's private or Council waste collection required for a project, traffic engineering principles will play a role in achieving a satisfactory outcome.

Here’s how we apply our traffic engineering expertise to waste management planning:

  • Designing car parks and vehicle access: The dimensions of the waste collection vehicle required to access a site influence various aspects of car park design, including accessway widths, headroom clearances, and ramp gradients. It is critical that these impacts get picked up and addressed early in the design process to avoid amending plans at a later stage.
  • Swept path analysis: We utilise specialised computer software to generate swept path diagrams for waste collection vehicles accessing a site. We can create custom vehicle templates that represent the nominated waste collection vehicle, be it a private or Council vehicle, to ensure appropriate access is achieved.

As traffic engineering specialists, Amber provide critical input to waste management planning across a range of projects, including childcare centres, warehouses, and residential developments. We frequently partner with our sustainability consultant, EcoResults, to provide traffic engineering services for Waste Management Plans.
